You can use Panopto to create and edit interactive video recordings. To create the most full-featured recordings, we recommend downloading the Panopto application to your computer. For basic recordings, it is possible to use Panopto Capture directly in your browser.

You can also record your lecture in Zoom and edit the recording in Panopto. The following Zoom help article Cloud recordings has more.

Option 1: Record Using the Panopto Application

Panopto can be downloaded on your Mac or Windows PC to create videos, such as PowerPoint presentations, upload the recordings to Panopto and share them with your students.

From your Canvas site, click Panopto Video in the left navigation, then click the icon (Open in Panopto) in the top right corner to launch Panopto. On the Panopto site, click Download Panopto at the top right corner below your name.

Option 2: Use Panopto Capture to Create a Video

Panopto Capture (Panopto Express) allows you to create video directly within your browser and no download is required.

Note: You will need to have the Creator access and use the latest versions of the major browsers.

From Panopto Video in the left course menu, select Panopto Capture from the Create drop-down menu.
In the newly launched browser, you will be prompted

to select an audio source. Click the audio icon to the left and select the desired audio source. (Note: a green bar indicates the microphone is picking up audio. You can test your microphone by talking at a normal volume)
to select the camera sources if you wish by clicking the camera icon in the center. Primary and secondary cameras can be selected.
to select screen and application sources. Select the monitor icon to the right to record a screen, application widow, or individual browser tab and click Share. Note: to record PowerPoint, make sure your PowerPoint presentation is in presenter mode prior to recording.
Click the gear icon at the bottom right for setting options.

Click the red circle button to start recording.
To stop recording, click the red square button. Don’t close your browser until you see the message in the next step.
Once your video is uploaded to Panopto, a message will appear stating that Getting your video ready for editing: It’s safe to close your browser window.
You then have options to title your video, select the folder where to upload your video, enter a description, edit your video, view your video, or share your video. You also have the option to redo your video or record a new video.
