Here are three scenarios for sharing content in Canvas.

Scenario 1: To share a Zoom cloud recording with a specific student.

You can share a Zoom recording from last semester with one student but not the rest of the class. For a Zoom recording on your local computer, you can upload it to your Panopto account and share it with individual students.

Log into your Zoom portal by going to www.princeton.zoom.us.
From the navigation menu, go to Recordings and locate the video you wish to share.
Copy the recording link information under Share and email it to the individual student.

Scenario 2: To share content with a specific student in a current semester course

You can share files and videos with a particular student only. Please use the Assignment or Group features to release content to the specific student.

Using the Group feature to create a group including only the individual student. They will be the only student accessing the content you add to the mini-group site. The student can access the content by going to Groups from the global navigation menu or People in the course navigation menu.

Go to People and create a Group Set with one group.
Manually add the student to the group by dragging the student to the group.
Go to the group site to upload content to Files or add a page to embed a Panopto or Kaltura video (by inserting embedded code in the HTML view).

Using the Assignment feature to create an assignment and only assign it to the specific student.

Go to Assignments to create an assignment.
In the rich content editor, link to files or embed Kaltura or Panopto video(s).
Check the checkbox for Do not count this assignment toward the final grade.
Under Assign to, select the student's name from the list.
Select a Due date and time, and if desired, dates and times for Available from and Until.
Click Save.

Scenario 3: To assign a different assignment due date to a specific student

You can grant a student an assignment extension (e.g., homework or quiz) for a different date than the rest of the class.

Go to Assignments and Edit the assignment.
Click +Add under Assign to and select the student's name from the list.
There will be at least two Assign to boxes. The other box will read Everyone else.
Select a Due date and time, and if desired, dates and times for Available from and Until.
Click Save.
